Ambassadeurs are capable of standing a fair degree of neglect without packing
up a little tlc every now and then won't go amiss. Luckily these reels are simple
to strip down and rebuild using the bare minimum of equipment - it can actually
be done using just the tool that comes with the reel. The key areas to take care
of are the levelwind, the drag, and the spool release mechanism. Bearings also
benefit from a drop of oil from time to time. Simply removing the left hand side
plate by undoing the three knurled thumb screws will give you access to the important
oiling points as shown in the reel handbook (right).
